[ARCHIVED] Virginia Statewide Tornado Drill

Tornado Drill ImageAs part of Virginia Severe Weather Awareness Week, a statewide tornado drill will take place on Thursday, March 7, at 9:45 a.m. Your department’s participation is voluntary and department emergency coordinators have been contacted by the Department of Emergency Management to receive necessary resources and information.

Before the drill, emergency coordinators should identify a space in your building that would be the safest place to go if there was an actual tornado! Remember to stay away from windows, doors, and outside walls. If you work from home, you can participate as well, by locating a safe place within your home.

Note: During the drill, we will also use our Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) system to conduct a monthly test. This test will go out city-wide, barring any actual emergencies. Mobile devices that have test message notifications enabled will receive the alert. For more information regarding our WEA test alerts.
