NORFOLK, Va. (NPD) – The Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation has been asked to investigate a shooting Friday afternoon involving Norfolk Police.
Officers were dispatched to a home in the 1700 block of Cornell Avenue on August 8, 2025, around 12:10 p.m. for the report of a residential burglary in progress.
Responding Officers found the suspect and engaged in a vehicle pursuit.
Following a vehicle pursuit that ended at the intersection of Guam Parkway and Meadowcreek Road, the man pointed a weapon at officers, at which time Officers discharged their service weapons striking the man.
The man, identified as Dwayne D. Harris, 31, of Norfolk, sustained a life-threatening gunshot wound and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
No Officers were injured.
All Officers involved will remain on administrative duty pending the outcome of this investigation.
