A Rich History
The Norfolk Police Department, established in 1797, is one of the oldest in the United States and has enjoyed an illustrious history of service. The Norfolk Police Museum, established in 1919, is the oldest museum in Norfolk. Its purpose is to document and preserve the history of NPD and those who have served the department.
The two museums are open to the public, donations are appreciated. During our transition from a paid to volunteer staff our hours of operation will vary. Please call 757-441-1526 after 10am to see if the facility is open. View a video about the museum.
Contributions & Item Donations
Contributions are also welcome and can be mailed or dropped off at the museum during business hours. If applicable, note on the envelope to which museum the funds are to be directed. If you have any historical items, please contact the museum during business hours to receive drop-off instructions.
