Trade Permits

What do I need to have?

To apply for trade (electrical, mechanical, & plumbing) permits, you will need:

  1. Go to the online E-Permitting Portal
  2. You will need to sign in (if you have an account), if not create one;
  3. This will require your contractor's license information just as it is shown in DPOR.
  4. Once you have created an account, you will choose which trade application you would like to complete.
  5. You will follow the steps and complete the information requested and attach any documents necessary for the application.
  6. Once completed, you will submit the application for review.

Who Can Apply?

Class A, B, or C contractors licensed in the state of Virginia may only obtain permits within their respective trade. Persons holding a master’s license in the state of Virginia may only obtain permits for projects within their trade not to exceed $1,000 in scope.
