The Elizabeth River Watershed is 11.08 square miles which is a significant military and commercial port facility for the Hampton Roads Area. Touching multiple Hampton Roads cities, this watershed is divided in to a main 3 branches, main, southern and eastern. Residents, businesses along with local, state and federal economies are ties to this waterway and depend on its continued vitality.
In 1983, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) mentions the Elizabeth River was singled out as one of the most highly polluted bodies of water in the entire Bay watershed and remains on the impaired waters list today. This river's restoration is now up to everyone and with small behavioral changes the Elizabeth River watershed will continue to thrive.
