Neighborhood Resilience to Covid-19
City staff in Neighborhood Development are inspired this month by all the ways Norfolk neighborhoods are demonstrating caring resilience to the Covid-19 pandemic. West Ghent participates in the teddy bear in windows scavenger hunts for families suddenly homeschooling their children. They put luminaries or simple candles in front yards on April 1st at 7:00 p.m. to honor medical professionals. Another week they are decorating cars with birthday decorations to hold a short, social distancing, neighborhood car parade. Other neighborhoods like Hollywood Homes/Maple Hall are using the good ole telephone to call and check on their neighbors. Individual residents (not in groups) in Ingleside are pitching in to pick up litter in public spaces on their daily exercise routes until non-critical city workers are allowed to return to their jobs. City workers are inspired by all these and many other actions in this difficult but historic time.
