When the Utilities Go Out
Power outages and other utility issues often happen during severe weather. If you experience a problem, it's best to contact your utility provider directly. Please only call 911 for emergencies like gas leaks or electrical hazards.
Power Outages
If you are experiencing a power outage, please contact Dominion Energy directly at 866-DOM-HELP.
Natural Gas
In the event of a gas leak, in addition to calling Virginia Natural Gas at 877-572-3342, also call the fire department at 911.
Cable / Satellite Service Outages
Contact your local cable or satellite provider.
Land-line, Cellular & Internet Phone Service Outages
Contact your local phone provider. Most cellular phones with power but no service may still be able to call or text 911 in an emergency. Please do not use this number to get your service reconnected.
Text Instead of Call
A storm or other emergency can create a large load on cell signals. In the event of an emergency, it is better to use texting instead of calling. Additionally, you can use Wifi calling on many smart devices by connecting your phone or device to wifi. Some devices, including iPhones (version 14+ running iOs 18+) allow for satellite texting.
